New Delhi: The Chandigarh rail station is to be redeveloped at a cost of Rs 131 crore and many real estate and infra companies are intererested for it. In an online pre-id meeting held recently by Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC), as many as 20 large and noted private firms participated including Adani Grp, L&T, AECOM, JLL, Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd, Eldeco and JKB Infrastructure among others.

Although the bid date is 27 may 2020 as of now, many of the private companies present in the meeting wanted an extension for the date. The rail station will be redeveloped like an airport and passengers will be required to pay ‘user fee’ if they board or alight at the station.

The IRSDC had already invited Request for Proposal (RFP) in January 2020 for the mixed-use development of the land parcels of the station on leasehold rights basis.

The railway station is envisaged to have airport like concourse above the tracks. There will be and several food stalls and shops. The station will be disabled friendly.

The Rail Land Development Authority is planning similar makeover of the New Delhi rail station. This will be a Rs 7,000 crore project.
