Asian Development Bank ADB gives loan of Rs 1,300 cr for up-gradation of Maharashtra roads

New Delhi: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has given a loan of USD 177 million (about Rs 1,300 crore) for the up-gradation of 450 kilometers of state highways and some district roads in Maharashtra.
The scope of the works include up gradation of two major district roads and also 11 state-highways. The project aims to lift these roads to two-lane standards in 7 districts. The project also aims to improve connectivity to seaports, national highways, airports, interstate roads, agri-areas, district headquarters and enterprise clusters.
The project will also take care of training of Maharashtra Public Works Department project staff to increase the skills for climate-change adaptation and disaster resilient aspects of road design and road maintenance, the government said in a statement.
ADB and government of India today signed an agreement for the project.
