Delhi Police arrests Delhi NCR realtor for cheating investors
New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested realty player Assotech’s director Sanjeev Shrivastava for allegedly cheating investors in ‘Assotech Canopy’ project.
“For raising more and more money, Shrivastava kept on launching new and new real estate projects and used the funds raised from one project in other projects,” said OP Mishra, Joint Commissioner-Economic Offenses Wing, Delhi Police.
Sudhir Gupta, an investor, purchased 40 apartment in the project but the flats were later allotted to someone else, without Gupta’s knowledge. When Gupta found out, Shrivastava assured him that flats in some other project will be allotted to him. He even fooled Gupta and took additional money from him.
It was much later that Gupta found out he had been fooled. He filed a complaint in 2016 which was converted into FIR.
A probe by Ghaziabad Development Authority found out that there was no approval given by it for any project by the name of ‘Assotech Canopy’.
Shrivastava was sent many notices to join the investigation but he never turned up. He was arrested on 8 January, Mishra said.
