Delivery of 8.78 lakh homes most likely to be delayed: ANAROCK

New Delhi: As many as 8.78 lakh home buyers will most likely have longer for getting delivery of their homes that were scheduled  this year and next in the top cities of the country. 

While 4.66 lakh homes were scheduled to be completed in 2020, another 4.12 lakh units were to be completed in 2021. Now with construction coming to a complete standstill during lockdown and the migrant labourers having gone back to their respective hometowns there will be most likey be a day in the completion of these houses, according to a report by ANAROCK property Consultants.

Delhi NCR and Mumbai both had about 1 lakh houses which were scheduled to be complete in 2020. Bengaluru too had a similar number.

“Maximum completions in 2020 and 2021 were scheduled in Delhi of about 2.40 lakh homes. Delhi NCR is set to witness more project delays in addition to the backlog of over two lakh houses already delayed in Delhi NCR from before. The government must intervene to address multiple challenges including labour shortage in top cities,” said Anuj Puri, Chairman, ANAROCK Property Consultants. 

Mumbai had scheduled completions of 1.07 lakh units in 2020 and another 1.03 lakh homes in 2020. Bengaluru had scheduled completions of 1.51 lakh units in 2020 and another 1.01 lakh houses in 2020.

Pune was to witness about 69,000 homes getting completed in 2020 and around 67,000 houses in 2021. Kolkata was to witness about 33,900 units getting completed in 2020 and about 25,100 homes in 2021.

Hyderabad had 30,500 homes to be completed this year and 14,700 next year. Chennai had 24,650 houses to be completed this year and 12,520 units in 2021.
