Govt approves declaration of Kushinagar Airport (Uttar Pradesh) as international airport
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved Kushinagar Airport in Uttar Pradesh to be declared as an international airport. Such declaration will result in improved connectivity in the region and offer wider choice to the air-travellers at more competitive costs.
The airport is close to many cities and towns of Buddhist cultural and historical importance like Kapilvastu, Lumbini and Sravasti.
Kushinagar itself is of Buddhist historical importance. There are a number of tourists coming to these cities and towns from various countries like Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, China and other Asian countries. These tourists visit these paces all the year round.
The tourists mainly come to these places to offer prayers and look at places and sites related to the life of Gautam Budha, the government said in a statement.
