Metro Lite, Metro Neo to be deployed in tier 2 cities, Nashik to get its own metro project

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam today said there will ‘Metro Lite’ and ‘Metro Neo’ urban mobility projects in tier 2 cities and also in the periphery of tier 1 cities which will cost much less than the convention metro train projects.

She also said an investment of Rs 1,952 crore will be made for the development of Phase 2 of Kochi metro projects in Kerala. Bengaluru metro rail project Phase 2A and Phase 2B will also be launched in which there will be a total investment of Rs 14,788 crore. Chennai will also get phase 2 of the metro project involving total investment of Rs 63,000 crore. Nagpur will see phase 2 of metro train project while new metro train system will come up in Nashik (Maharashtra).

 Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2021, also said that government will launch a new scheme for development of urban infrastructure with an investment of Rs 18,000 crore under PPP mode under which private entities will be able to own and run 20,000 buses.
