NBCC's opeartions to be affected in first half of current fiscal, situation "very volatile"

New Delhi: The operations of state-run company NBCC will be affected in the first half of the current fiscal even as the company has secured Rs 31 crore worth of orders in May 2020. The shortage of labour is the reason why the company’s operations will be affected, although exact quantum of loss cannot be ascertained at this stage.  

“The first half of 2020-21 will get affected due to non availability of labour but it is difficult to assess the impact of COVID-19 on the operations of the company with reasonable certainty,” the company said in a regulatory filing.

The return of the labouer to their native towns and villages is an “issue to be address” said the company. But at about 65 percent of the ongoing construction sites the works have resumed.

The re-starting of construction work at those sites which are presently falling in containment zones of various will be done as per the permission from those state governments, the company said. 

In a separate filing to the stock exchanges, the company said it has received new business worth Rs 31.89 crore in May 2020. 

There was complete halt in works from 23 March 2020 due to nationwide lockdown but the works resumed partially since easing of the lockdown from 20 April 2020. The situation relating to corona inflicted lockdown is “very volatile” said the company.
