TDI, 3 other realty firms in Haryana may be fined heavily by NGT

New Delhi: Four realty firms in Haryana may be heavily fined by National Green Tribunal (NGT) for violating environment laws during construction in Kundli (Sonepat district).

The four developers are- TDI Infrastructure Ltd, Narang Constructions and Financiers Ltd, Parker Estate Development Ltd and CMD Built-Tech Ltd. They have been found violating environmental norms in their projects in sectors 58-64 in Kundli by a joint committee formed by NGT last year. The committee was looking at the quantum of violation and has now submitted its report recommending a recovery of Rs 48.4 crore from the four firms as environmental compensation, according to new report in The Tribune newspaper.

In 2018, Kissan Udey Samiti had filed a complaint with the NGT saying that the realty firms have not provided for proper sewerage system and sanitation in their projects.

In 2019, Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) found that the apartments were built without getting green nod and even the consent to expansion (CTE). The housing projects were also found to be without any system to collect and dispose solid waste.

After these reports were submitted by Haryana State Pollution Control Board, NGT Bench had ordered in October 2019 that an interim fine of Rs 22.5 crore be recovered from the four developers. The NGT bench had also formed a joint committee having representatives of Forest and Climate Change, Central Pollution Control Board and Ministry of Environment to arrive at realistic compensation to be recovered from the realty firms. IIT-Delhi representatives were also part of the joint committee.
